I just recieved something in the mail that looks like a demand to pay for a fraudulent check in the amount of $150. I haven't used checks in over 5 years. It doesn't list a check number, the payee or the bank. It is from the Check Processing Bureau and the phone number is 888-238-3290. Do you happen to have any info this outfit?
I've been getting the same harrassing letters for a few months now. They are almost definately fraudulant.
They have a mail drop in New York:
C.P.B.

I've spoken with them on the phone and they can't tell me any identifying information at all. Not even information that would be on a bad check!
The first form letter I received couldn't even get the state I would have written a check in correct (it was blank). The second was updated to show I wrote it in Nevada (but I didn't live here when this check was supposedly written).
This is most definately a scam. I have contacted the FBI with all of the information I have found. I suggest everyone receiving these letters do the same, as well as contacting your state AG's office as well as the AG of any state mentioned in the letter.
recently received collection notice from ron adams. he was tryng to collect 263$ from a check i never wrote. his company is the check processing bureau ny,ny. i spoke with f b i and they said there was nothing to be done. i spoke with local p d and the officer said that i should call him 24/7 and tier up his lines. so lets all do this tel#888-238-3290 ext#4 after the prompt has answered.
